Sasser
05.01.04 (12:17 pm) [edit]
It's been an interesting day around our house.
This morning, while I was sleeping in  , Chris tried to log onto the internet and discovered that we had a pretty bad virus. He would log on, only to have a message pop-up about 2 minutes later that shut the computer dwon. Everytime, same thing. We ran spybot and McAfee and found 7 virus's and 2 trojans. *sigh* The worst one was called the "sasser worm" and it affects your windows32 files. Not good. Not good at all.
I really, really want to cause SOMEONE bodily harm at this point. I'm talking bloodshed. Nothing else would satisfy me at this point.
Chris finally was able to hop onto the microsoft website and print off the instructions to fix it. We activated our firewall and downloaded some symantic thing. Hopefully that took care of everything.
Talk about frustrating. What makes it worse, is my lack of computer knowledge. I want so bad to be able to KNOW what to do and how to fix things.
The good news is that it's now fixed with no real problems remaining. I feel like I'm tiptoeing around the internet, afraid that the big bad wolf is going to pop up around the next corner and steal all of my goodies for Grandma.

Sometimes I ponder ways to torture the geeks that come up with these viruses. Like telling them Babylon 5 has been cancelled. (I'm not in touch with geekdom very much, so the rest of my fantsies involve pain...)

I have to agree. What is the point of the viruses? Do they just do them because they can? *grr*

I just went through all of that luckily I had the geeks and Dell walk me through fixing it! By the time it was all said and done, I could have hurt someone too!!!!

Actually Kate, I think that's exactly why they do it. I used to hang out in Yahoo pool alot. (Don't ask) It was all young people and the biggest topic of conversation was hacking and stealing "rare" yahoo id's. I never really understood the point though. I think they are just bored punks.

You are lucky hun! That's a pretty good percentage of downtime. What kind of anti-virus software do you run, and how often.. That would be great to know.. lol

I remember on that 70's show when "Red" kept calling his son's Star Wars "action figures" his dolls.
Always cracks me up when I think of it.
Do you like the new header HardtoImagine did for me?

YES! I was just on your blog and I'm really impressed. Simple, but pretty. It fits you to a T! I love that font with the water theme.

Hardtoimagine emailed me and said she'd like to do it - was sweet and cool.
